The public is invited to a UNLV MFA Open Studios event on December 6 from 6-9PM to meet the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) candidates and visit their studios to see their recent work. The annual Open Studios event is an opportunity to engage with the MFA candidates in Art and experience works in video, installation, painting, performance, collage, sculpture and photography. The artists are exploring a wide range of contemporary themes and conceptual concerns including sports, gender and the body, technology, the environment, indigenous cultures, and more.
MFA Candidates: Aaron Cowan, Cida de Aragon, Erin K. Drew, Fawn Douglas, Homero Hidalgo, Christopher Jones, John McVay, Peter Mengert, Laurence Myers Reese, Emily Sarten, Xiaomeng Tang, and Shelby Westika.
Studios are located on the second floor of Archie Grant Hall and across the street at the GRS Building 4570 Maryland S. Parkway (the old Carl’s Jr. at Harmon and Maryland Parkway). Free parking is available in the parking lots in front of Grant Hall and Alta Ham Fine Arts. Limited parking is available on-site at GRS.
The MFA Open Studios will coincide with two other art events on campus that night: the BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) Student Midway exhibition closing reception at Grant Hall Gallery, 6-9PM; and the Opening Reception for the Commodified exhibition at the Graduate Art Studios, 6-9PM. Signage will be posted at Grant Hall and GRS to direct visitors that night. All events are free and open to the public. Commodified will be on view through February 7, 2020.
