A Public Fit Theatre Company (APf) is excited to announce the return of the Playwright’s Tirade, a public reading of a brand-new play, on Wednesday, December 11th, at 7:00 PM at the SST Studio Theatre (4340 S. Valley View Blvd.). Admission is free, but seating is limited!
Yucca Mountain by Autumn Widdoes, emerged from a competitive call for submissions. “It’s a mystery set in Las Vegas,” says Ann-Marie Pereth, director of the reading. “What I love is how it presents something fresh—a story about family and betrayal—without leaning on the city’s usual stereotypes. It’s a Las Vegas we don’t often see.”
Yucca Mountain features the talents of Christopher Brown, Jamie M. Clay, Amanda Guardado, Breon Jenay, Stephanie McCue, and Nicole Unger.
“Thanks to support from the Black Mountain Institute, we’ve had the time and resources to rehearse with some of the city’s finest actors,” says Pereth. “Having the playwright in the room is a rare luxury, allowing actors to collaborate directly and helping Autumn refine her work through real-time feedback.”
Immediately following the reading, A Public Fit will continue the conversation with The Buzz, a moderated discussion of the play's themes, style and impressions. The Buzz is an expression of APF's on-going commitment to audience engagement, treating each production as the start of an unending conversation.
“We hope to host the Playwright’s Tirade at least twice a year,” Pereth adds. “Theatre thrives on the creativity of new voices. Supporting emerging playwrights is essential to keeping the art form alive and evolving.”
