Kathleen Nathan: Inside Brooklyn @ CSN Fine Arts Gallery

CSN FINE ARTS GALLERY EXHIBITION Kathleen Nathan: Inside Brooklyn Friday, March 22, 2019 through Saturday, April 27, 2019 North Las Vegas Campus Fine Arts Gallery

The College of Southern Nevada Department of Fine Arts will host a photography exhibition by local artist and CSN Adjunct Professor of Art, Kathleen Nathan. Inside Brooklyn will begin Friday, March 22, 2019 and will run through Saturday, April 27, 2019.

Ms. Nathan will participate in a Gallery Talk and Reception on Thursday, March 28, 2019, at 6 p.m. in the CSN Fine Arts Gallery, Room H101, on the North Las Vegas Campus.

Kathleen Nathan was born in Utica, NY. She began her study of photography in 1973 at the Rochester Institute of Technology and Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, NY, where she began to develop her style and skills in black and white photography. Nathan obtained her MFA from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1991. For more than 30 years her work has been exhibited in solo and group shows throughout the United States. Nathan currently divides her time between Nevada and New York.

During her career, Nathan’s work has evolved with time and experience - from taking photographs to making photographs, from darkroom to digital. She continues to pursue her devotion to capturing the passage of time through the photograph. Nathan is currently working on a documentary project, Upstate: Revisiting the Roadways of Upstate, NY.

In 2011, Nathan moved to Brooklyn, New York. Disoriented by this extreme change in locale, she spent time perched by the windows in her apartment; inside, looking out, contemplating and taking in this new urban environment. Her favorite window faced east. The view included the sky, apartments, buildings, windows, brick walls, roof tops, and a magnificent 34 story, art deco landmark skyscraper, the Williamsburgh Savings Tower, today known as One Hanson. Nathan was mesmerized by this building; a constant in a continuum of change. It was her timepiece, anchor and true north as she learned to navigate her new life there. The photographs in this exhibit are the results of her musings and observations of time, light and the subtle nuances of daily life during her residence in Brooklyn, NY.

The CSN Fine Arts Gallery is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are from 9 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The Fine Arts Gallery is located at the half circle drive near CSN’s main entrance, on the North Las Vegas campus at 3200 E. Cheyenne Avenue, one-mile East of I-15 North.
