Jazz Outreach Initiative, working with Bob Bonora (Chair, Fine Arts) and his team at the College of Southern Nevada Music Department to produce two different and exceptional jazz experiences. Both concerts will be performed at the Nicholas J. Horn Theater on the College of Southern Nevada Cheyenne Campus on March 27. Both concerts are free, but each event requires separate tickets.
There will be a narrated one-hour concert beginning at 2 p.m., spotlighting the life and music of jazz luminary Miles Davis! This concert will feature the JOI Jazz Sextet playing some of Miles Davis’s most popular classics.
Jazz for Young People is an educational music event (licensed from Jazz at Lincoln Center) that explores the life and music of some of our most famous jazz artists. Students and audience members learn how the artist overcame social, economic, and other challenges and forever changed this great American art form through their groundbreaking music. The CSN Jazz Ensemble will open the 7 p.m. concert with their performance of selections from their spring 2022 program. In addition, Jazz Outreach Initiative will present two young members of the community with its Jazz Routes program, a donated musical instrument, and a year of free donor-sponsored private music lessons!
The professional JOI Jazz Orchestra then takes the stage for an inspiring and memorable performance of original works and arrangements of classic big band music from some of Las Vegas’s most renowned composers.
