“Colors of Mexico brings together magical places, sculptures, food, and enjoyable experiences through sights and sounds, with various types of music from Mexico. The idea is to show the world a few wonders Mexico offers. People love the space, and with the help of sponsors, Fantasy Lab was able to offer free entrance to the general public.”– Ricardo Lopez Franco, President and CEO of Fantasy Lab.
Colors of Mexico is a sprawling 20,000-square-foot celebration of Mexican culture, art, and flavors. Ricardo Lopez Franco, founder and CEO of Fantasy Lab, first brought the space to life in 2022 with the immersive installation A Time to Dream. The second edition, Colors of Mexico, opened on November 2, 2024, and invites visitors into a family-friendly, kaleidoscopic experience of Mexico’s rich traditions blended with modern, interactive elements and countless Instagram-worthy moments.
Every corner of Colors of Mexico is a feast for the senses, captivating visitors with vibrant fantasy environments. Snap a romantic photo in The Alley of the Kiss, a recreation of Guanajuato’s iconic Callejón del Beso, where colorful murals and charming decor set a magical scene. Step into the mystical Firefly Forest Experience, an ethereal space perfect for whimsical selfies.
Marvel at the stunning Árbol de la Vida (Tree of Life), whose intricately carved branches narrate vivid stories of Mexican culture and history. The Lotería Wall pays playful tribute to Mexico’s beloved bingo-style game, while the Guadalupe Statue honors Mexico’s spiritual heritage. Visitors can also behold the legacy of Mexico’s revered civilizations—the Aztecs, Mixtecs, and Mayans—and immerse themselves in the mesmerizing Digital Huichol Eye of God, a blend of tradition and technology.
Vibrant alebrijes and fantastical creatures representing Mexican folk art are scattered throughout the exhibit. These creations trace back to the 1930s, when artist Pedro Linares, bedridden with fever, dreamed of brightly colored hybrid animals chanting the word “alebrije.” Upon his recovery, he brought these creatures to life using papier-mâché, earning recognition from artists like Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. Alebrijes have since become symbols of Mexican culture, often associated with the Day of the Dead as spirit animals that guide and protect souls.
Ricardo Lopez Franco brings a background in technology and advertising to his immersive creations. Alongside a talented team of artists, designers, engineers, and creators, Lopez Franco leveraged LED and digital technologies to reimagine cultural spaces. The team—including key contributors like Victor Sanchez, Danielle Delgado Camacho, and many other craftsmen, worked tirelessly to design authentic, stereotype-free environments that celebrate Mexico’s vibrant culture. Their combined vision ensures visitors leave with cherished memories and a deeper appreciation for Mexico’s artistic heritage.
No visit to Colors of Mexico is complete without exploring its culinary offerings, led by Executive Chef Rigo Guizar. Mexico’s cuisine, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage treasure and honored with accolades like the Star Diamond Award, is proudly showcased here. The restaurant’s menu celebrates the diverse regions of Mexico, blending traditional recipes with fresh, modern twists.
The extensive menu features family-friendly options with something for everyone. Start with appetizers like esquites (street-style corn with lime and chili) or chips con queso (warm, melted cheese dip). Main dishes include classics such as carne asada (grilled beef marinated in lime and spices, served with tortillas or bolillos), mole poblano (a velvety sauce of chocolate, chiles, and spices over tender chicken), and cochinita pibil (slow-cooked pork marinated in achiote and citrus, wrapped in banana leaves). Vegetarian offerings, like rajas con crema (roasted poblano peppers in creamy cheese sauce), ensure everyone enjoys a delicious meal.
Desserts offer a sweet conclusion with options like flan (caramel custard), arroz con leche (Mexican rice pudding), crêpes de cajeta (crêpes with caramel sauce), and refreshing milkshakes.
The beverage menu showcases Mexico’s finest tequilas, mezcals, and spirits through both classic and innovative cocktails. Bartender Gable recommends signature drinks like the Colors of Mexico, a refreshing infusion of tequila and citrus, or the Cantarito, a mix of tequila, citrus juices, and grapefruit soda served in a traditional clay cup. The Bomba, a vibrant drink from Aguascalientes, combines tequila with seasonal fruit juices for a tart and sweet experience.
For a tangy twist, try the Margarita de Tamarindo, blending tequila with tamarind puree and chili salt, or the Margarita Picante, a fiery option with fresh jalapeños. Mezcal enthusiasts can savor smoky delights like the Mezcal Mule or the Oaxaca Old Fashioned, which pairs mezcal with aged tequila for a smooth, rich taste. Non-drinkers can enjoy equally delicious mocktails, including the Virgin Piña Colada and Virgin Margarita.
Colors of Mexico is more than just an attraction—it’s a cultural journey celebrating Mexico’s artistry, flavors, and traditions at accessible prices. Open daily, it welcomes visitors of all ages to explore a vibrant nation’s sights, sounds, and tastes. From snapping photos in immersive spaces to shopping for artisanal treasures and savoring handcrafted food and drinks, every moment spent here is a joyful celebration of Mexican culture.
