The community is invited to submit photos, artwork, and artifacts showcasing their connections and experiences with nature; the deadline for artist submissions is March 14
The Las Vegas Natural History Museum invites students and local artists to participate in its new Harmony in Diversity community exhibition, on display April 1-30. Supported in part by the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts, the exhibition will celebrate the diversity of local artists and their work. Individuals of every background, age, and experience level are welcome to submit photos, art pieces, and artifacts highlighting their connections and experiences with nature.
All mediums except for video are welcome, with preference given to the following mediums:
Collage: open to anything, including but not limited to found flat objects made of paper, metal, cardboard, and transparent materials such as tracing paper, wax paper, acetate, etc. Anything made from flat 2-D materials can be cut and used as collage or background materials.
Sculpture: metal, wood, plaster, cardboard, ceramic/clay, found objects in relief or in the round
Photography: silver gelatin, digital, alternative media photography, montage (photo collage)
Those interested in displaying their artwork must submit a photo and dimensions of their artwork or artifact with an up to 100-word description. The description should explain the significance of the piece selected or created and connect it to the theme.
Submissions without a description will not be considered. All sizes of art are welcome but may not be larger than 80 inches x 30 inches x 78 inches.
All submissions must be emailed to the museum’s Education Director at education@lvnhm.org.
The content of the artwork must be appropriate for all ages and free of vulgarity, graphic depictions of violence, or sexually explicit imagery. Sharing content with LVNHM gives the museum permission to utilize the artwork and/or visual representations of the artwork (photos) in perpetuity. Parent permission will be required to display artwork or recordings by artists 17 years and younger.
Any artifacts or physical items loaned to the Museum will require a temporary loan agreement signed by the artist or artifact owner. Any artifacts or physical items given to the Museum will require a gift agreement, transferring ownership to the Museum from the artist or owner. Parent/guardian permission will be required for any agreements regarding the work of individuals under the age of 18.
WHEN: Artist submissions will be accepted from:
February 21-March 14 at noon.
Artists chosen to be in the exhibit will be notified on Monday, March 17.
The exhibition will be on display from April 1-30.
