Broadway In The HOOD (Helping Others Open Doors), in partnership with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Foundation, will present the critically-acclaimed touring production of the Broadway play, American Son. The first two performances will be in Las Vegas at the West Las Vegas Library Theatre Jan. 8-9.
American Son, the riveting Broadway play adapted into a Netflix television special, is an explosive drama in real-time in the waiting room of a police station over the course of one evening. An estranged couple collides as they confront an unexpected crisis involving their son, the police, and an abandoned car. This powerful play examines the complexities facing our law enforcement officers, their families, and the harsh reality facing the youth of our country today.
The touring production of American Son kicks off in Las Vegas on Jan. 8 and Jan. 9 and will tour major and rural theatre locations throughout the state of Nevada through June. The American Son tour will continue in Boulder City on Jan. 15 and Jan. 22. Showtime is 2 p.m. on both days.
Performances for American Son will run 1 hour and 30 minutes, with a 30-minute talkback session with the cast and crew following each performance. It’s free and open to the public in honor of Law Enforcement Appreciation Weekend 2022 and sponsored by The Nevada Arts Council.
Las Vegas-based Tony and Emmy Award-nominated arts and educational theatre company Broadway In The HOOD has been selected as the recipient of a Target of Opportunity Grant by Nevada Arts Council to tour their production of American Son by Christopher Demos-Brown.
This movement started in pre-COVID in 2020. Broadway In The HOOD, in partnership with Clark County School District, presented American Son to over 5,000 middle and high school students, teachers, and staff to address the goals of the Southern Nevada Any Given Child initiative, which is focused on ensuring all K-12 students have access to quality arts experiences. These in-school performances were offered free of charge to schools to allow the inclusion of all students and received rave reviews.
