BEYOND BOLD to exhibit at Priscilla Fowler Fine Art

Priscilla Fowler Fine Art Gallery announces the opening of BEYOND BOLD: The work of Don Lyle and Ed Meese on Preview Thursday, October 6, and First Friday, October 7, at their temporary location at 1427 South Commerce St., in the Arts District.

Both artists have been showing at the gallery for several years, and in this two-man exhibition, they team up to present work that goes beyond the boundaries of commonly-seen abstract work, bringing together strong composition and design with simple and complex color choices.

Don Lyle started painting in Idaho. In applying to the Idaho State University MFA program, he found himself immersed in an environment of artistic peers and professionals, which led to his career in the areas of architecture, film, sculpture, and painting. The work portrayed in this show combines his studies in these disciplines, through the use of open space and direct color, in a simple play of shapes.

Originally hailing from the Detroit area, Ed Meese received his BFA from Wayne State University and currently works from his home studio in Las Vegas. His work stems from his fascination with applying and observing both reactionary and stable colors, pigments amended with various mediums, and then layered and mixed on a variety of surface materials. His process allows the transitions to become identifiable with objects and movement into geometric form, pattern, and bright color.

Both artists will be present during Preview Thursday, October 6, from 5 to 8 p.m., and on First Friday, October 7, from 6 to 10 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public. Daniel Mauk will provide music on First Friday. Complimentary Mystery Punch will be provided by Horse Trailer Hideout. Parking is free just to the west of Commerce Street, making it an easy walk to the gallery.
