A Public Fit Concludes 2024 Season with Staged Reading of The Pavilion

A Public Fit Theatre Company (APf) wraps up its 10th season with a staged reading of Craig Wright’s The Pavilion on Friday, June 28 at 7 p.m. and again on Saturday, June 29 at 2 p.m. at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Rd.  Doors will open one half-hour before showtime, and admission is FREE.

Set in the midst of a 20-year high school reunion, The Pavilion reunites Kari and Peter, two former sweethearts whose teen romance was abruptly cut short through a brazen act of selfish callousness.  Now face-to-face after 2 decades apart, their romantic dreams of second chances give way to the realities of the cosmos.  The Pavilion is a beautifully thoughtful play about the complexities of human connection and the irresistible power of redemption.

“It’s really a play about time,” says APf Artistic Director Ann-Marie Pereth who, along with partner Joseph Kucan, directs the reading.  “And the way time will magnify and exaggerate even the simplest of decisions we make, especially when we’re way too young to understand the repercussions of those decisions.”

“And it’s beautiful,” adds Kucan.  “Craig Wright has a way with words that is simply unmatched.  No one is better at illustrating the complexities of the human condition on stage.”

The Pavilion features the talents of Josua Berg, Shelley Lynn and Jenny Fox and is offered in partnership with the Las Vegas Clark County Library District.  “It’s a dream play for actors,” says Pereth. “You've got two star-crossed lovers and then a third performer who plays literally every once else; Jenny manages to create an entire coterie all by herself!”

Immediately following each performance, audiences are invited to join the cast and production staff in a moderated discussion of the themes and discoveries presented in the play.   This APf hallmark - The Buzz - ensures that the conversations surrounding captivating theatre are shared by the community.  The Buzz is an expression of A Public Fit’s ongoing commitment to engage audiences well beyond the limits of the stage.  “We learn something new with each and every Buzz,” says Pereth.  “I truly believe that we have the most engaged audiences in town!”

APf offers a seven-show season consisting of four staged readings and three mainstage productions.  “We’re very close to announcing our 2024-25 season lineup,” says Pereth.  “Who knows?  Maybe if you come to see The Pavilion you’ll be treated to the inside scoop of what next year has to offer!”
