Rita Deanin Abbey Art Museum, in collaboration with The Asylum Theatre, will present A Time to Love. Jose Anthony will perform this staged reading of monologues from Cinco Veces Amor by Rafael Guizado, with text in both English and Spanish. The exclusive performance will be held at Rita Deanin Abbey Art Museum from 3 to 5 p.m. on Monday, November 11.
“The dramatization of conflict within the individual human mind is the oldest and most basic form of drama. The theatricalization of this conflict has a long and varied history in Latin America's literary and cultural traditions,” reflected by Colombian dramatist Rafael Guizado on the nature of love in his collection of short stories Cinco Veces Amor (1948). Two independent monologues from Cinco Veces Amor—one tragic, one hopeful— combine into a tour de force for the actor.
The performance will also be accompanied by live music, including Johannes Brahms's Opus 121, which is the German composer’s reflection on the nature of life’s cycle.
Direction and translation from Spanish (Colombia) to English by Gigi Guizado
Produced by The Asylum Theatre for Solo Play Festival in partnership with ProEnglish Theatre and World of English Speaking Theatres (W.E.S.T.) Theatre Association
