New era for the Valley Theatre Awards begins in partnership with Eat More Art Las Vegas
In three years, the Valley Theatre Awards has moved from an idea to Las Vegas’ biggest theatrical event. Now, more growth is afoot as the Valley Theatre Awards moves to a new home at Eat More Art Las Vegas. Executive Director Jacob Coakley and Producer Jessica Hird will hand the awards over to Eat More Art’s Sarah O’Connell to continue celebrating the best of locally produced Las Vegas theatre.
“I received an incredible job opportunity in Los Angeles, and I couldn’t pass it up,” said Coakley. “The Awards have always been bigger than me though, and I know that Sarah O’Connell at Eat More Art, along with one of our original team, Producer James Sohre, will continue this fabulous program, and find new ways to celebrate Vegas’ incredible theatre.”
“I am sad to see Jacob and Jessica leave,” said O’Connell, “but I am happy that we will be able to continue this program that has come to mean so much to the community here.”
Over the coming months O’Connell and her team will take over coordinating the year-round adjudicating and produce the annual awards gala in July. Entries for the 2017 David Sankuer Hero Award will be open soon, and more programs are in the works as well.
“The Awards will continue,” said Coakley. “There’s an old phrase in theatre, what is it again? Oh yes, ‘The show must go on.’ This will undoubtedly be the case here as well. Vegas theatre is truly something special, and the Valley Awards will be there to celebrate the great performances, designs and people who make it happen.”
