The entire play is set in a room at the Lorraine Hotel the evening before his assassination. In The Mountaintop, an exhausted Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. returns from a prophetic speech during the sanitation workers’ strike and is visited by a mysterious maid, Camae, with a much greater mission than delivering his coffee. With vivid theatrical imagination and powerful emotion, playwright Katori Hall beautifully fictionalizes the final hours of Dr. King’s life in this Olivier Award-winning drama about leadership, legacy and mortality.

Presented by Broadway In The Hood Since its inception in 2010, Las Vegas-based Broadway In The Hood has produced original theatrical works dealing with social issues as well as acclaimed community productions of Broadway blockbusters like Dreamgirls and The Color Purple. The organization has been featured on numerous TV shows, including TVOne’s R&B Divas LA and a one-hour PBS special, Broadway In The Hood: Open Doors and Dreams, which was nominated for a regional Emmy Award. The Smith Center has partnered with the group to present its upcoming season.
