Kevin Beavers Bright Sky - West Coast Professional Premiere
Mozart Exsultate, Jubilate, K165
Mahler Symphony No. 4 in G Major
OPENING NIGHT SOARS with vivid lyricism as the orchestra launches the season with the West Coast professional premiere of American composer Kevin Beavers’ Bright Sky, a bristling concert opener based on Diane Gregory’s poem, “The Sky in Connemara.” Mozart’s Exsultate, Jubilate, famously written in three weeks at the age of sixteen, is an exquisitely crafted concerto meant to showcase its chosen instrument – the human voice. Maria Valdes, an accomplished young Soprano and alumnus of the prestigious San Francisco Opera Adler Fellowship, will be our featured soloist for both the Mozart and Mahler’s Symphony No. 4, a joyful and exultant work that captures this towering composer at his most tender and playful.
