Kris Shepherd. Never was a man more aptly named for you were truly a shepherd to so many of us here in Las Vegas and beyond. You were always looking out for everybody, tending to our needs, guiding generations of kids in the right direction, leading us all in building a community made of kindness, compassion, and celebration of one another. You believed that the Theatre was special because it is a realm where anything is possible. You taught that whatever job you do in it, you should work hard to do it right because others are counting on you, and everyone’s contribution is important, no matter what form it may take.
Your example will continue to shepherd me for the rest of my life. Thank you for helping to get The Asylum Theatre off the ground all those years ago. Thank you for the coffee, chats and sound advice. Thank you for loving everyone’s children. Thank you for your generous spirit, and your constant effort to be present to anyone who needed your encouragement and support. It’s our turn now to continue on the path that you laid out, to be present to The Rainbow Company and to your family, coworkers and friends. Your life was like the theatre- filled with love, and joy and self-sacrifice…an event that is fleeting but that leaves everyone permanently changed. You never asked to be paid back, only that we pay it forward. It will take forever to share all that you have given. Peace be with you and your beloved. It will be harder to live in this world without you, but you have shown us how to do it right.
